Zardari
stresses need for greater national reconciliation;
President Asif Ali Zardari while stressing the need for greater
national reconciliation said that he intends to keep all political
forces together because Pakistan cannot afford confrontation at
this juncture. “Dialogue is our most powerful weapon...we defeated
a dictator through the power of dialogue and we intend to continue
holding dialogue to resolve various issues confronting Pakistan,”
he said in an interactive meeting with former senior civil servants
at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad.

Chinese
consortium offers to invest $300 million in mega projects of NWFP:
MoU for Peshawar Bus Terminal signed;
NWFP Senior Minister and ANP's parliamentary leader, Bashir Ahmad
Bilour welcomed the offer of Chinese government for investment
in mega development projects in the province. Presiding over a
meeting at Civil Secretariat, Peshawar he said the investment
by Chinese companies would go a long way in bringing about peace
and stability in the terror affected province, while the construction
of a modern bus terminal would prove a milestone to this effect.

Geneva
moot stresses causes of financial crisis;
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) President
Syed Asad Ali Shah has said that the financial crisis provides
an opportunity to politicians and regulators to reform the financial
architecture to minimize systematic risks in future. He said this
while speaking at the concluding session of a conference organized
by UNCTAD at Palais des Nations, Geneva, last week on the topic
of ‘The Financial Crisis and its Implications for the International
Financial Reporting Architecture and Financial Stability’.

Supreme
Court decision to be implemented: Asim;
The Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources,
Dr Asim Hussain has said that the decision of the apex court would
be implemented and the prices of petroleum products would be reduced,
and added that petroleum products accounted for major taxes, even
in advanced countries, and the government would face financial
problems on revenue side in case of withdrawal of carbon tax.

Trade
caravan planned for China, Kyrgyzstan;
Pakistan’s trade caravan to China, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan will
start its journey from Karachi on October 15 to explore business
opportunities there and to project Pakistan’s trade and investment
potential. Initially, it will consist of a 150-member delegation
and other members of the business community will join them later
from different cities of the country making total number of delegates
to 450.

Experts
for establishment of first Agriculture e-Chamber;
The experts at a workshop in Islamabad stressed the need for establishment
of First Agriculture e-Chamber besides utilizing Information and
Communication Technologies for strengthening agriculture Information
services to promote agriculture sector in the region. Proposal
to this effect was made during the second day of the three-day
regional SAARC workshop on "Role of Media for accelerating
agricultural growth in SAARC countries: Experiences and Lessons
from South Asia".

KESC
to go for Thar coal power generation in two years;
The Karachi Electric Supply Company will go for Thar coal in coming
two to three years as the company gains some financial strength.
“We are now getting investments in KESC from May 2009 with the
signing of the final agreement,” the KESC chief executive officer
Naveed Ismail
said during his visit to the Korangi Association of Trade and
Industry (KATI) to meet industrialists.

The Consul General/Chief of Mission of Republic of Korea in Karachi

Industry
welcomes carbon levy suspension;
The business community has hailed the Supreme Court’s decision
to suspend imposition of carbon tax on petroleum products. Lahore
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Mian Muzaffar
Ali, Senior Vice President Tahir Javaid Malik and Vice President
Irfan Iqbal Sheikh has said that the carbon levy was a burden,
earning a bad name to the government who otherwise had taken a
number of business-friendly decisions in the recent past.
