Quadrilateral meeting at Dushanbe: region needs to cooperate in energy and trade, says Medvedev;
The quadrilateral summit meeting of Pakistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Russia on Thursday recognized the significance of strengthening mutually beneficial economic co-operation as an important component of solidifying mutual ties. The joint statement issued after President Asif Ali Zardari, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai met in the Tajik capital, also stressed the importance of the development and strengthening of economic and trade relations among the four countries.

Zardari and Russian president discuss bilateral ties;
President Asif Ali Zardari and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev discussed bilateral ties as well as the regional and international issues of mutual interest, as they met in Dushanbe on Thursday, ahead of a quadrilateral meeting with Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

Aid package for Pakistan: IMF considering augmentation;
The International Monetary Fund said on Thursday it is considering an increase for an aid package for Pakistan agreed on last November. "I can confirm an augmentation is under consideration," IMF spokeswoman Caroline Atkinson told journalists in response to questions on reports that Pakistan had requested an additional four billion dollars.

Pakistan to export rice to Philippine;
Pakistan and Thailand will export to the Philippines a total of 75,000 metric tons (MT) of well-milled long-grain white rice of 25-percent broken. The rice imports are scheduled to start in August and September this year.

Canada rules out free trade agreement;
Canadian Trade Commissioner Marilyn Denton met committee members of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) to discuss the means of broadening bilateral trade between Canada and Pakistan. The trade commissioner said Pakistan is rich in resources and has a special relationship with Canada because it is the fourth largest source of immigrants to the country.

Many industrialists approaching for investment: Qaim;
Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah chaired the first meeting of Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) at Chief Minister House. Highlighting the concept and objectives of the Board, the Chief Minister said it will be our utmost effort to attract investment in Sindh particularly in Karachi which is economic hub of the country.

Success of trade policy linked to energy supply;
The Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has linked the success of trade policy to availability of cheaper electricity, continuous gas supply to the industry, withdrawal of a rise in prices of petroleum products and cut in mark-up rates.
